AudioCodes – Block nuisance inbound calls

This post explains an easy way to block nuisance callers using an AudioCodes SBC. Whilst it’s possible to use New-CsInboundBlockedNumberPattern with Microsoft Teams, what if another type of PBX or Contact Centre hooked up to your SBC? These calls would bypass the Teams rule. Maybe you just want to do your blocking closer to the SIP carrier which is completely acceptable. I’m achieving this by using AudioCodes Dial Plans which are a super efficient way of routing calls rather than having lots of IP-to-IP rules or Number Manipulations. ...

Skype for Business – CCE Install Problems

Here are the various errors I encountered helping a customer re-install Cloud Connector Edition and the fixes for them. Enabling credential delegation for NTLM on host machine. Enabling credential delegation for NTLM on host machine. The installation hangs whilst running “Enabling credential delegation for NTLM on host machine.” This fix is actually posted in the Q&A here: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/lync/Step-by-Step-Configure-23d8cd42/view/Discussions although the original poster does not confirm if the solution worked. I can confirm it does work. ...

Skype for Business Server – Fabric Logs Consuming Disk Space (Script)

You may notice that your Skype for Business Front End server consumes a lot of disk space and the culprit will either be: C:\ProgramData\Windows Fabric\Log (SfB 2015) or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SF\Log (SfB 2019) This is caused by Windows Fabric log growth and can be rectified by either: Increase disk space Limit how long Fabric Logs are kept (default 3 days) This post shows how to do option 2 manually in SfB 2015: https://myhybridsetup.org/skype-for-business-2015-limit-fabric-tracing-logs-growth/ ...

Skype for Business – RIP Exchange Unified Messaging

Microsoft have stated that they would retire Exchange Online UM on 28th February 2020 and it would be replaced by Cloud Voicemail. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/plan/exchange-unified-messaging-online-migration-support This morning at 2:51am (29th Feb) we received the following email from Office 365 Message Centre. Ensure you have configured the Cloud Voicemail prereqs. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/hybrid/plan-cloud-voicemail. One of the main requirements is a SfB Hybrid which was not required for Exchange Online UM integration. It’s still not clear what has happened to customers who have not done this. Does CVM work without a Hybrid? ...

Skype for Business Server – Cloud Voicemail Configuration – Tenant or TenantID?

To configure Cloud Voicemail, you should follow this guide from Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/hybrid/configure-cloud-voicemail Before I started writing this post, I knew that -Tenant should be -TenantID in SfBs 2019 (TenantID = Your Office 365 TenantID). I have successfully configured customers with CVM using this method. When trying to get a screenshot from a working environment -TenantID was missing! Doing some further investigation it looks like the latest SfBs 2019 CU removes -TenantID (and even -Tenant) from the Set/New-CsHostedVoicemailPolicy cmdlet. ...

Skype for Business – QoS with 3rd Party Applications

Are you using Citrix or any other 3rd party application that handles media (e.g. Call Recording / Contact Centre) with Skype for Business? You may find you’re not marking this traffic with the correct DSCP markings. You should configure QoS in the usual method using a Windows GPO. Mark Vale documents this process really well: https://blog.valeconsulting.co.uk/2015/09/07/skype-for-business-configuring-quality-of-service-qos/ Pat Richard has a really useful QoS Calculator here: https://www.ucunleashed.com/2821 “Why does it matter if I’m using Citrix or a call recording application like Verba?” Answer - They have their own executables and don’t use the standard SfB exe’s to send/receive media! ...

Skype for Business – Bulk Set Client Pin

Note this script is provided as an example only - By default a user can set their own Client Pin via the Dial-In Conferencing page (usually dialin.domain.com). You may have a requirement to bulk set a Client Pin if you’re rolling out a large number of VOIP phones. The script example below sets a 6 digit client PIN consisting of a two digit prefix followed by the last 4 digits of the users LineUri: ...

Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business – Ignite – A roundup from Twitter

The biggest news from Microsoft Ignite is the announcement of Microsoft Teams replacing Skype for Business Online. This has sent the Community, Skype for Business service providers and Integrators around the globe into a bit of a rumour mill. So the key point is Teams will replace Skype for Business Online. Microsoft will be announcing a new version of Skype for Business Server 2019 (Formerly LCS, OCS & Lync) that we all know and love next year, however this will be for On-Prem customers (I.E. not in a Microsoft datacentre). You will be able to have a Skype for Business and Teams Hybrid deployment. ...

Skype for Business – Why you should install Office 2016 CTR rather than traditional MSI

If you don’t have Office 365 or are not using the Office 2016 Click To Run (CTR) software on your end users computers they may be missing out on some great new features. The first great feature of the CTR version of Office 2016 is Consult and Transfer. Lync 2010, Lync 2013 and Skype for Business has desperately needed a Consult and Transfer button. In the past this was a complicated process for some users and I have had potential customers reject Lync and Skype for Business because the process wasn’t slick. I was always of the opinion you could drop a user an IM before transfering rather than making an actual call but some businesses insist they need this feature. Well, it’s here but you need to be running the Office 2016 CTR Skype for Business installed from the O365 portal. ...

Skype for Business – Automatically set RGS Holiday Sets with PowerShell and JSON

Every Lync/Skype admin has the same nightmare with Response Group Holiday sets, something that has to manually be programmed each year for Public Holidays in your country. What if you could script populating Holiday Sets automatically using PowerShell and an API? I live in England and most of my customers are UK based so I needed a service that would give me Public Holidays for the UK. Our government website lists all Public Holidays here: https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays. They are also conveniently provided in JSON format here: https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays.json ...
